During his tenure in AFR Maret served as mission chief for a number of countries including Mali, Benin, and Niger and desk economist for Kenya. He has negotiated and monitored a number of important Fund programs with African countries including an ECF (Extended Credit Facility) for Mali and Poverty Reduction Growth Facilities for Benin and Niger.
During his formative years at the Fund he served as Fiscal Economist in the Fiscal Affairs Department working with a diverse range of countries in Africa, Asia and Europe.
Prior to joining the Fund Maret worked as an economics professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor USA, a visiting economics professor at the University of Clermont-Ferrand, France, and a research associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis- USA.
He served as a visiting economics instructor at the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar and during sabbatical year in 2004 undertook research on trade liberalization of agricultural markets and its impact on growth, poverty and the environment.
